Programs

The Bakersfield Skateboard Foundation brings skateboarding, art, and music together through projects that inspire, educate, and connect the community. Our programs are all about creating opportunities—whether it’s through public events, artist collaborations, or preserving skateboarding history, we’re building something lasting for Bakersfield.

The heart of it all is The Crystal Palace of Skateboarding, a professional museum that will showcase historical memorabilia, local artwork, and interactive exhibits. It’s more than a museum—it’s a hub for community-driven exhibitions and events, with a future vision of becoming a permanent downtown landmark. Our biannual 661VM Video Magazine highlights local skaters, businesses, and events, giving them a platform while generating revenue through ad sales. Each edition premieres at our art exhibitions, making it a celebration of the community’s creativity.

We also commission two local skateboarders every year to paint iconic Bakersfield skate spots through the Artist Commissioning Program. These original works are displayed at exhibitions and sold as merchandise, blending skate culture with artistic expression. Our Local Legend / Sponsored Pro Deck Series brings non-pro skaters and ex-pros into the spotlight with signature decks that split proceeds between the skaters and the foundation.

Every month, we close off streets and bring the community together at our First Friday Community Skate Events. Skaters, artists, and musicians take over the streets with portable obstacles, live music, and public art installations. These events are about more than just skateboarding—they’re about creating a space where the entire community can engage and grow.

Through these programs, we’re not just preserving Bakersfield’s skateboarding legacy—we’re expanding it, making sure it stays alive for the next generation.
