About Us

The Bakersfield Skateboard Foundation is dedicated to celebrating, preserving, and growing Bakersfield’s vibrant skateboarding, art, and music culture. Founded on the belief that skateboarding is more than just a sport—it’s an art form, a community, and a lifestyle—our mission is to empower local youth and unite the broader community through creative projects, events, and educational programs.

We aim to create spaces where young skateboarders can thrive, artists can showcase their talent, and the culture of skateboarding can be passed down to future generations. Our initiatives, including The Crystal Palace of Skateboarding, community events, artist collaborations, and a video magazine, are designed to foster creativity and community engagement while preserving the city’s skateboarding legacy.

Our Story

The Bakersfield Skateboard Foundation was established by a passionate group of skaters, artists, and community leaders who recognized the potential for skateboarding to unite and uplift the community. Witnessing the growth of Bakersfield’s skate culture firsthand, our founders committed to creating opportunities for local youth while preserving the city’s rich history of skateboarding.

Since its founding, the organization has launched key programs like First Friday Community Skate Events, the Artist Commissioning Program, and 661VM Video Magazine, making significant contributions to Bakersfield’s creative and skateboarding landscape. Through partnerships with national brands like Santa Cruz Skateboards and local skate shops, we’ve grown into a community-driven force that continues to make a lasting impact.

Our Mission

To celebrate, preserve, and grow the skateboarding, art, and music culture of Bakersfield by integrating community events and youth development through a dedicated nonprofit organization.

We Thrive Through Collaboration

Fostering Youth Development

By providing structured programs and mentorship opportunities, we create positive spaces where young skateboarders can develop their skills, build confidence, and connect with mentors.

Promoting Artistic Expression

Through the Artist Commissioning Program, we bring together skateboarders and local artists to create and showcase original works of art inspired by iconic Bakersfield skate spots.

Capturing Culture Through Media

Our 661VM Video Magazine preserves Bakersfield’s skate culture by highlighting local skaters, businesses, and events while generating revenue through advertising and sponsorships.
